Beestest Documentaries

It’s been a while since I watched any quality films (I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With was pretty great, especially if you love Curb Your Enthusiasm and Sarah Silverman, but I’m missing the documentaries). I used to not own a television, so every chance I got, it was off to VIDEOLOGY.

I cas not wait to watch King of Kong… This is going to happen as soon as I get home and I have a feeling that it will bump one of these names off the list, but for now, in anticipation of some guuud watchin’, here are my top ten favorite documentaries of all time:

10) Born Into Brothels - Not good for those with tendancy to jump, great film to get over feeling sorry for yourself.

9) The Fog of War - Besides giving you so many great characters to impersonate, it happened to win an Oscar and has an original score from Philip Glass.

8 ) Jesus Camp - JESUS.

7) Murderball - Maybe the most entertaining documentary of all time. Prepare to flinch, and be amazed.

6) Grizzly Man - Not so much an accurate documentary as a trau-medy. Only as Herzog can do.

5) Word Wars- Watching people who obsessively play and compete in scrabble. If you’re anything like me, that somehow sounds really, really exciting.

4) Grey Gardens - What could be more fascinating that watching bat-shit insane old relatives of Jackie O living in a decrepid mansion in more or less isolation from the outside world? Also, it was turned into a broadway play that Karen went to.

3) Titicut Follies - A movie that was banned for years by the State of Massachusetts about a state prison for the criminally insane. Maybe even more disturbing than “Jesus Camp”.

2) Manufacturing Consent - Noam Chompsky and the Media. I think the title says it all, really. A relevant film.

1) Fast, Cheap, and Out of Control - Manages to combine a robotics designer, retired lion tamer, mole rat fanatic, and topiary gardener together in a fascinating and original way.
