My lil’ bit o’ North Carolina
Remember this movie? I bet while you were watching at Daniel Day Lewis’ majestic forest-sneaking skills (shwing!) you were probably thinking, “What are these woods they filmed in that remain so untouched by man?” Yes, that’s probably what was on your mind.
Well, Daniel, bless his soul (let’s forgive the Oscars earring fiasco!) and the rest of the LOTM’s crew shot in the fairy-filled forrest-y mountain region of Western North Carolina. Look closely!
!
Yes, these woods were indeed untouched, other than the occasional sign to warn you of your imminent death if you happen to stumble upon your hike. Yes, I was a wee bit nervous on my walk. Coming from Manhattan, I’m not exactly used to steep cliffs. And opportunities to fall to your death upon jagged rocks, there were a-plenty.
But oh, the scenic waterfalls:
Untouched…
Except what’s that above the second waterfall?

uhhhh…
Just your run-of-the-mill suicidal kayacker!
This is that pic zoomed out (he’s the dot in the second fall):
The magnificent forest was full of surprises.
A tree with a heart-shaped branch…
For Daniel to hug people under.
Yes, I climbed to the top of this INSANE waterfall.
This was the dizzying view from it’s edge. In the distant background was Cold Mountain. No joke. The mountains of N.C. are totally star-studded.
