Can you imagine what the world would be like without Mick Jagger for the past 40 years? No Freejack? No Dancing in the Street? It’s an empty, mouthless reality that could have been since Mick was almost murdered by the Hell’s Angels in 1969!

According to The Associated Press, the Angels were so pissed at how they were treated by Mick at the Stones’ infamous Altamont concert, at which they were hired as security and were then accused of stabbing concertgoer Meredith Hunter to death, the Angels decided they’d vengefully murder Mick in his Long Island retreat. They also made the decision to reach him by sea, taking out a boat (LOL! I’m imagining a half-dozen 200 lb. leather-clad bikers in a row boat carrying a bazooka with a skull and crossbones painted on it.) which soon capsized in a storm and foiled the plot.

One has to admire (and laugh at) their Bond-worthy attempt to change history.

*Another great anecdote about the delightfully creative Angels (that I was told from a bartender at The Edge Bar) was that once upon a time, a man made the mistake of parking in front of their headquarters in the east village, so the Angels disassembled the car and left it in thousands of peices, otherwise unharmed, on the street for the man to put back together. Nutso.
